Batman: The Dark Knight Teaser + The Official Gotham Times

Batman fans are having a blast leading up to the release of Christian Bale's Batman: The Dark Knight. With marketing and advertising well underway, here are just some of the terrific new shots and teasers of what looks to be a contender for the best and darkest superhero film to date.

Yeah I know, it doesn't show as much as you would like but it certainly gets you a little excited doesn't it?

As well as this, The official The Gotham Times is online. Four pages long and full of teaser stories and Gotham related news, it sets a great backstory for The Dark Knight and hints at the coming menace that The Joker will no-doubt present. You can check that out by clicking on the front page right below.

After you have had a read through, be sure to check out The Joker's copy of The Gotham Times. He has written and scrawled all over the original and painted a thoroughly disturbed picture of a thoroughly disturbing individual. Find that by clicking on the thumbnail below...

As well as this, the brand new leaked cover image for next month's US Empire Magazine shows a believably psychopathic looking Heath Ledger portraying Bruce Wayne's twisted Gotham City nemesis.

It's hard for this caffeinated fanboy not to get excited over this particular release.

Anyway that's me done for this week - keep an eye out for our Quickflix e-zine On The Couch next week. I have taken over as the Editor, and I am hoping for a great new look of the mag to be ready in time for launch. Enjoy your weekend DVD's all!

Terminator 4 Possible Script Leak

A TEAM OF GUERRILLAS is being overrun by terminator endoskeletons in the ruins of a building. One by one, the soldiers fall in desperate hand-to-hand combat.

One of
the terminators looms over a wounded soldier, its battle rifle's barrel swinging down toward the guerrilla's head. The man stares defiantly into his death. Then... Suddenly, amazingly, the terminator stops, freezing in place... Aerial HKs tilt slowly, out of control, and crash to the ground.

All the terminators stand frozen, unmoving, like
a bunch of toy soldiers. The sudden silence takes the humans by surprise. They slowly emerge from their rat-warren emplacements and approach the frozen machines. We hear a voice speaking over a radio headset. It is filled with awed emotion.

HEADSET VOICE (O.S.)
... The Colorado Division
confirms that
Skynet has been destroyed...
The war is
over... I repeat, Skynet
has been destroyed.

---------------

This was brought to my attention earlier today from another site in the US.
Could it be a leak from the upcoming Terminator 4: Salvation script? I don't know, but I sure can hope...

New Seinfeld Sitcom On The Cards?

The creator of "the show about nothing" recently hinted on Andrew Denton's program, Enough Rope, that he has been quietly writing a new show based on married life.

Infamously a bachelor for most of the 9-year-run of Seinfeld (from 1989 - 1998), this new television series idea sounds like a natural progression for the comedian who is now a happily married father of three.

Unlike the original legendary series Seinfeld, which often documented TV Jerry's dating mishaps and life as a single man in Manhattan, his new show idea reflects a distinct change in perspective for the older and more mature real-life Jerry Seinfeld.

Things definitely have been going great guns for him lately since writing and starring in his first feature film Bee Movie. Jerry voices the main character of Barry Bee Benson in a computer animated comedy about... well... bees... that has absolutely stormed the US Box office with takings of over US$100million and recently knocked Russell Crowe/Ridley Scott crime powerhouse American Gangster off the #1 spot.

Frankly I am excited we are seeing more of Jerry lately. As well as the awesome success of Bee Movie, he did also hint at the start of the month on a US talk show that he is still considering filming a final episode of Seinfeld with the original cast mates.

I guess in the meantime however, this Seinfeld junkie is going to have to make do with some repeats. Click below to add some of the earlier Seinfeld seasons to your Queue!

REVIEW: Interview

Steve Buscemi is one odd looking guy.

He is also, as this movie proves, incredibly talented. Steve Buscemi co-writes, stars and takes over directing duties for this foreign film remake as the original director, Theo van Gogh, was brutally gunned down by a Muslim extremist in 2004.

Buscemi plays the role of Pierre Peders, a faded and down-on-his-luck political journalist who has reluctantly been sent to do another fluff piece on a celebrity rather than cover the latest breaking White House scandal.

Sharing top billing is one Sienna Miller. The one-time squeeze of Jude Law absolutely shines in this film as she plays the famous Katya - a celebrity better known for who she is currently sleeping with and her latest breast surgery rather than her magazine covers, questionable performances in B-grade movies and cheesy television shows.

World-weary Pierre clearly has absolutely zero professional respect for Katya, who arrives over an hour late to the trendy restaurant only to find a journalist who knows absolutely nothing about her or her career and, perhaps even more offensively, doesn't seem remotely curious about finding out.

With things initially getting off to a terrible start between the two and the interview being abandoned, fate intervenes through a somewhat convenient plot coincidence, and Pierre is invited up into Katya's mammoth loft apartment for a brief chat and a drink, and before we know it - the interview continues.

This is where the film really kicks off. We start to see these two size each other up and spend their evening ducking and weaving around each other's questions - sparring like seasoned middleweight boxers. The characters develop, change and turn as we see Pierre doing all he can to drag a great story from Katya... whereas the supposedly vapid Katya shows there is much more to her than meet the eye.

The dialogue is snappy, the characters are believable and, for what is essentially a two-person show that occurs mainly around a single location, Interview held my attention from the moment it started right up to the delicious twist at the end.

Other critics have mentioned it is a story better suited to being told on a traditional stage. While the movie doesn't overly benefit from being viewed on a large screen with surround sound, it still remains a highly entertaining look at two flawed but driven individuals showing the symbiotic nature of the press and celebrity.

Well worth seeing if you get the chance, the hide and seek nature of the interview process was as fascinating as it was revealing.

4 Stars

*For those keen on cinema Easter Eggs, take note of who Katya signs an autograph for in the early scenes at the restaurant.

Brand New Trailer for Hitman

EDIT 26/11 - I have replaced the hi-res embedded trailer with a lower res YouTube version that doesn't download automatically.

I just received an email from one of our contacts at 20th Century Fox which was containing a brand spankin' new trailer for the upcoming Timothy Olyphant guns-blazin' action movie "Hitman"!

"Timothy who?!"you may well be saying. Understandable on one hand because this guy hasn't really had his name up in lights... but he has been bouncing around Hollywood for some time delivering firecracker performances in a range of support roles in major releases over the years.

Things like:

  • Go - Todd Gaines, the vengeful drug dealer that hooks up with Katie Holmes
  • Rockstar - Rod Malcolm, Blood Pollution guitarist
  • A Man Apart - Hollywood Jack, slick criminal who gets on the wrong side of Vin Diesel
  • Gone in 60 Seconds - Detective Drycoff, one of the main cops who can't figure out why Cage and his gang keep stealing cars
  • Scream 2 - Mickey Altieri, shot in the chest after being revealed as the killer (or was he?!)

Add to that his MASSIVE role in Die Hard 4.0 as the supervillain, and Timothy Olyphant seems to be on fire at the moment.

I'm really hopeful about this- admittedly very few movies based on video games seem to live up to their early promise, but this one looks like it could be a winner. Whether Olyphant can carry a film remains to be seen, but he no doubt has the ability and intensity to make a fantastic Agent 47 in December's Hitman.

In fact, that's just given me a great idea for a new Quickflix collection actually... Coming early next week look out for a list of the best Hitman/Assassin movies!

Enjoy your weekend!

Christian Bale in Terminator 4: Salvation

Aintitcool.com reports that the master character actor Christian Bale is signed on as John Connor in the next Terminator movie.

Now I don't know how legitimate this is, but Aintitcool.com does have a pretty solid record when it comes to delivering at the internet/movie game. I still recall when Bruce Willis himself personally posted on their message boards in an attempt to deflect criticism from the leagues of Aintitcool.com fans about Die Hard 4.0's PG13 rating.

Either way, the addition of Christian Bale certainly makes this movie sound like it could be pretty gosh darn terrific. Last I heard, rumour had it that the ex-wrestling superstar The Rock was set to play the role of the Terminator, since Arnie won't be returning for his most famous role as the unstoppable* cyborg.

If that's the case then the stage looks to be set terrific showdown between the two of them.

Bale already reinvigorated the then-flagging Batman series (I'm looking at you 1997's Batman & Robin!) with the excellent Batman Begins, and proved can definitely handle himself in an action role. The Rock has cut his acting chops on a range of different productions recently and managed to prove to the world that he has a fair chunk of talent acting on screen (see Be Cool if you still aren't a believer).

Exciting times!

*unstoppable unless you crush him in a compactor, drop him in molten metal or explode him somehow with an opposing, newer version of a Terminator while crushing him under a blast proof door.

Pics of the Predalien from AVP2

Courtesy of 20th Century Fox we have some images of the much heralded "Predalien" from the upcoming movie Aliens VS Predator: Requiem.

And let's just say it looks terrific.

In the last Alien VS Predator venture, a spaceship took off with a Predator in it's hold that had been infected by one of the monstrous face-huggers. Sure that hinted at a future Predalien, but no-one dared hope. After all, both the Alien and Predator series have never really adhered to a strict cohesive timeline between sequels.

Enough of all this writing though, let's get to those images...

Yeah!

Steven Seagal - Aikido Master, Movie Star... Musician?

Steven Seagal was once regarded as a promising prospect to becoming one of the upper echelon of action stars. Sure he never was quite made it as an Arnie or a Stallone, but for a while there - with the critically acclaimed Under Seige - he looked as though he might be.

While Under Seige was the crown jewel of the Seagal career, it's hard not to see Seagal as a success regardless. Working constantly and with a loyal base of fans he has undoubtedly carved out his own form of worldwide fame and success - not bad for someone who stumbled into the movie business. In fact, once you read his story, it's hard not to have an appreciation for the guy.

You see - Seagal never really planned to be an actor. His career originally was based around his 7th dan accreditation in aikido which he received through training in Japan. Over there is is known as "Master Take Shigemichi" and was the first foreigner to own and operate an aikido dojo in Osaka.

Through teaching aikido to LA's wealthy he caught the eye of one of his students, Hollywood power-broker Michael Ovitz. Ovitz, who produced 2002's Gangs of New York, saw movie star potential in this reserved martial-arts teacher. Since then Seagal's films have grossed over $600million worldwide.

Films are one thing... everyone knows the Seagal style of film and is familiar with at least a couple of his movies. Did you know that this guy can also rip it up on guitar and vocals?

Take a look:

That's "Girl It's Alright" from his 2005 full-length CD release "Songs from the Crystal Cave".

Even more bizarrely, one of Seagal's Buddhist teachers, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, accorded Seagal as a tulku in 1997. This basically means that in his esteemed teacher's eyes, Steven Seagal is the reincarnation of a 17th century holy Buddhist Lama. Only a handful of Westerners have ever been granted this honour.

Add in a couple of other random facts like how he speaks fluent Japanese, has directed a major motion picture (1994's On Deadly Ground) and how he once broke Sir Sean Connery's wrist while trying to teach him martial arts... well you just can't help but admire the guy.

New fan? Me too. Check out his list of films at Quickflix!

Fred Claus & Christmas Movies

Well it is getting to that time of year again when streets begin to be adorned with holiday decorations, the department stores ring loud with endless repeats of "Jingle Bells" and you begin to hungrily eye off chocolate advent calendars - despite the fact you are in your mid twenties.

Well - maybe that's just me.

Either way it also signals a new Christmas movie from Hollywood. These can range from the excellent to the mediocre.

While I don't want to make any comments on the latest Santa Clause film (Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause), I do admit that the original Santa Clause was pretty good. Tim Allen still had a fresh appeal, the premise was quite original and the entire story was one that catered just as much to adults as it did for the younger audience members.

(For an added bit of moviegeek trivia - in the original The Santa Clause, when Scott and Charlie are leaving the North Pole in the sleigh, you can see a clear Mickey Mouse logo on the moon.)

Other notable mentions include Will Ferrell's Elf and Billy Bob Thornton's Bad Santa.

This year's Christmas movie contender looks to be Fred Claus. The basic premise is that Santa's loser older brother Fred is forced to move to the North Pole in order to straighten out his life. No doubt learning some valuable lessons along the way and having a few wholesome laughs.

It boasts a stellar cast (Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, Rachel Weisz and Kevin Spacey among others) so I hold high hopes that it could deliver some Christmas magic to this jaded movie fanatic. Has anyone out there seen it at all and want to drop in a comment?

Rambo Balboa

Clicking through IMDB and getting information on upcoming blockbuster releases is just one of the tasks that makes for a good morning. On shameless display were some awesome movie-stills and poster art for the upcoming Sylvester Stallone warbeast "Rambo".

I could have sworn it was called "John Rambo" a while ago... Other working titles that it has used and discarded are:

  • Rambo IV
  • Rambo IV: End of Peace
  • Rambo IV: Holy War
  • Rambo IV: In the Serpent's Eye
  • Rambo IV: Pearl of the Cobra
  • Rambo: To Hell and Back
Frankly I think "Pearl of the Cobra" is pretty catchy, but probably better suited as a title for the fifth Indiana Jones film (scheduled for release in summer 2024).

I am of mixed feelings about the new Rambo. I figure that it can go one of two ways.

1. The Rocky Balboa Path - where the story core remains the same, but the characters have evolved and improved with time since the last installment.

2. The Die Hard 4.0 Path - while still full of the action and characters you love, overall it has a different "feel"to the previous trilogy and it's a bit of a different movie.

Ah who am I kidding, I will be there on opening night no matter what.

In the meantime - want to see John Rambo taking out a corrupt sheriff, save P.O.W.'s in Vietnam or strangely work with the Taliban in Afghanistan against the Russians?

Then you will want to add Rambo:First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rambo III to your queue!

New Beowulf Clips

Just a quick one today Quickflixers - On the bright side I have also linked some brand new trailers for Beowulf.

You may have noticed a few changes here over the last couple of weeks. Little things being changed around such as the subscribe options, the labels on each post and a bit of a reshuffle for menu items. All of this is good, but I still think there is plenty more to be done for me to feel like the blog is going in the best direction.

So if you do come across anything that looks odd or strange while it gets updated in the near future - bear with me. Hopefully any teething problems shouldn't take too long.

In the meantime why not look at some new released trailers for Robert Zemeckis' upcoming guaranteed-to-be-terrific movie CGI beast known as Beowulf?

I'll even link it for you! Right here.

620 Movie Trailers + Sweeney Todd

Like the title says, we have been slowly but constantly adding more and more trailers up onto the Quickflix site to help you make the right choice for what goes on your Queue.

So go have a browse through and a bit of a look! I'm sure your boss won't mind. In fact - call them over so they can pick and choose their way through them too. With 600+ in our system there would have to be a few you are interested in looking at.

One trailer we don't have up on site (yet) is for the upcoming Tim Burton movie Sweeney Todd featuring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

It's clear that these two are Mr Burton's absolute favourite actors in Hollywood - he has used one or both of them in 8 of the last 10 movies he has made since 1990.

Sweeney Todd looks absolutely fantastic... dark, brooding, atmospheric and gothic. Just a textbook case of Tim Burton's style. But don't take my word for it - check it out below from the recently released official trailer:

Election 2007 - Politics and Political

We have a new list up on the site titled: Election 2007 - Politics & Political.

Personally I have always loved a tense and tight-paced politically charged thriller and there are a few great ones on that list. In my opinion, the clear winner of the bunch is"Wag the Dog".

It's an absolute must-see as it tells the story of a cover up of an American President's sexual misadventures by using a Hollywood-created war to distract the public. You get to see propaganda, spin doctoring and the fictional slick inner workings of the media driven political machine.

Starring Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman, this remains a terrific piece of satire almost a decade after it was filmed and clearly remains my pick of the bunch out of the entire collection.

Go have a look regardless though, I am sure there are a number of winners in there that you will be able to browse through!

REVIEW: Rogue

Written, produced and directed by Australian horror legend Greg Mclean (the twisted mind behind the outback thriller Wolf Creek), Rogue is an attack/survival movie set in the Australian Northern Territory that sees a boat full of international tourists become the prey of a highly aggressive crocodile.

A bit like a very Aussie Jaws.

This is a fantastic little hook to get people in providing it is done right. I believe the last Australian horror movie that was so by-the-book was the ill-fated 2000 "Cut", starring one-time-megastar Molly Ringwald, Kylie Minogue and Stephen Curry which tried to really cash in on the then-trend of teen slasher movies kicked off by movies like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Thankfully even though it shares one of the stars (Stephen Curry) Rogue is in an entirely different league to Cut, and manages to create a movie that, while predictable and formulaic, remains mostly a great example of how to build tension and wind the audience up as the attacks get more and more boisterous and grisly as the movie goes on.

For the majority of the picture, director Greg Mclean shows great restraint in images of the croc. Knowing that an audience gives a much better reaction from the anticipation and lead up to the attacks rather than a CGI explosion of jaws and scales proves to be a smart directing decision.

Whenever these sorts of films are playing, I always make a point to look out over the audience and conduct a bit of a test to see how nervous the crowd is during any given scene by seeing how many are nervously nail biting. On this test, Rogue came up trumps, with what looked to be about 75% of the audience gnawing on their nails in anticipation of "how and when the next character will go."

The acting was surprisingly good and the scenery, providing you can't tell when you are looking at scenes shot in NT and scenes shot in VIC, looks magnificent. The croc itself was quite convincing and the average cinema-goer probably won't have any issues with the CGI quality there.

Really my only complaints about the film would be that it really did stick to the formula a little too strictly (you can pretty much pick early on who is destined to live and who is croc-food) and that there weren't enough cool looking "death rolls*" by the croc.

Overall it's just a well crafted B-movie and for a bit of fun, it's definitely worth a look-in.

3.5/5

*A death-roll is the name given to the action when crocodiles roll under the water to disorient and drown their captured prey. The late crocodile-hunter Steve Irwin once commented that it was potentially the most powerful killing mechanism on earth.

Quickflix Melbourne Ad Campaign

Some new advertising is being launched to help bring Quickflix over to our friends in Victoria, so we thought we would show it here as well so other members get a look (click images for larger versions):

The "Whose Queue?" advertising campaign has been running in the Herald Sun to a great response. We should have some morning-radio snippets from comedian Dave Hughes talking up Quickflix on the Nova Melbourne breakfast show to put up early next week as well.

Click here to play the "Listhp" radio advert (1:03)

Either way, that is it for me this week... I think this weekend will see me settling in with a big box of popcorn and a viewing of Rogue.

Have a good one all!

DeNiro & Pacino Act Off!

Our friends at Empire have gained some exclusive shots of the 2008 movie "Righteous Kill" starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino .

It's easy to get excited about this... two of the most gifted actors working today once again sharing scenes. The last time these two guys worked together was in the brilliant 1995 Michael Mann film "Heat". If this is even half as good as I am expecting I will even think about forgiving De Niro for "The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle".

Unfortunately Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is also playing a role in the film, though I would seriously doubt him playing a major character. I am still reeling from his acting in the car-crash that was "Get Rich or Die Tryin", which made Jean-Claude Van Damme look like a Shakespeare thespian by comparison.

Either way, go have a quick squiz at the pics at Empire and then come back and add some Pacino or De Niro titles to your Queue!

Breaking the Top 10

Quickflix is officially ranked #8 by visits among all Australian websites in the Hitwise Entertainment-Movies category for July-September 2007.

The Hitwise website says of the award:

Each quarter, Hitwise awards the 10 most popular websites across each of the 160+ Hitwise categories.

Companies are not required to be a Hitwise client to qualify for the Hitwise Top 10 Award program. Top 10 Website Awards are based on popularity according to the percentage of user visits a website receives compared to other sites in their category during a specific period.

Of course we won't be resting until we hit #1, if for no other reason than to draw comparisons between us and other #1's out there like Roger Federer and Tiger Woods, but for now breaking into the top 10 list is a great way to see that word is getting out about Quickflix and that more and more people are getting interested to see what we do.

In other news, I hope everyone went well with the Melbourne Cup yesterday. Sure, my 'hot-tip' Scenic Shot didn't do quite as well as planned, but at least it beat the horse that came last.

6 November 2007

Giddyup!

Take your tips and place your bets because today is the day when the whole of Australia stops what they are doing to watch a whole bunch of horses tear around a track.

Of course, us being Quickflix, we simply cannot go past putting a small wager on the horse known as "Scenic Shot" - but only because there isn't a horse on field named something far more movie related like "Casablanca" or "Charlton Heston".

I have put up Cup Fever! Top Ten Horse & Horse Racing Films at the Quickflix site. So if you are keen to recapture some of today's excitement then ride up and go add them up to your Queue!

In other news, the much threatened Hollywood writer's strike has finally happened after many threats and negotiations by the Writers Guild of America. The bad news is that as of the moment, a writer actually writing something in Hollywood is about as rare as a unicorn sighting. The good news is that the effects of this won't be felt for some time by all of us in Australia - if at all.

The studios have stockpiled about 6 months worth of scripts in anticipation of this event so really the effects of this strike will be only immediately noticed on programs like late night talk shows.

Anyway enough about that. Best of luck in today's big race!

National Treasure 2 Trailer

The new theatrical trailer has been released for upcoming Nicholas Cage vehicle National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets.

The original proved to be a bit of a surprise success, with the Walt Disney influence on the story turning it into a bit of a fun and cheesy American cross between Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code.

Not like that is a bad thing at all... sometimes you need to indulge in some good old fashioned Hollywood adventure where you are expected to do nothing more than sit back and be entertained.

The basic plot sees hilariously-named treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates (Cage) doing his best to uncover the truth behind the assassination of Abraham Lincoln by looking finding and through the lost pages of assassin John Wilkes Booth's journal.

The support cast seem to be a star-studded affair with Jon Voight, Diane Kruger, Ed Harris, Helen Mirren and Harvey Keitel as the "big names" rounding out the picture.

2 November 2007

X-Files 2?

It has been almost ten years since the last X-Files movie, and over five years since the hit show faded away into obscurity off our screens, but finally a movie sequel to The X-Files has been confirmed by 20th Century Fox.

This comes as no doubt great news to the legions of Duchovny fans - especially after his recent resurgence in popularity thanks to his controversial TV show Californication. Gillian Anderson's two or three fans should be pretty happy about this too as she is once again clipping on the Dana Scully FBI name tag and playing the voice of reason to the justifiably paranoid Mulder.

Series creator Chris Carter is on board to direct with filming starting in December and the release date has been slated for mid 2008.

While no details on plot or story have officially been released, it would be safe to assume that the story will probably at least partly involve a large scale CIA cover-up and aliens.

Want to watch some of the old episodes? Add them to your queue!

Spider-Man 4

Checking up on our friends at Empire News, it looks as though Spider-Man 4 is being given every chance to succeed with Sony Pictures signing up the skilled wordsmith James Vanderbilt to pen the upcoming script.

Vanderbilt, who recently wrote the spectacular David Fincher movie Zodiac along with other movies such as the Travolta /Jackson military-themed Basic and the bloody Darkness Falls, is also reportedly putting the final touches on Hugh Jackman's upcoming Wolverine movie.

No doubt there will be shroud of secrecy over this upcoming script. I remember the hype surrounding Spider-Man 3 as it was in production with everyone second-guessing which villain(s) would feature and whether Kirsten Dunst's character Mary-Jane would be killed off.

But who will Spidey be fighting this time around?

In my opinion, the smart money would be placed on this trifecta:

-----------------------
1. The Lizard

The Lizard's alter-ego in the comics is none other than Dr. Curt Connors, Peter Parker's mentor that has been played in previous Spider-Man movies by actor Dylan Baker.

What makes The Lizard get such hot odds is that traditionally in his human form he is a friend of Peter Parker - only when he transforms does he become one of Spidey's powerful enemies. Considering that no other villain has had such a lengthy set-up in the existing trilogy, it is a safe bet that he will make an appearance.

Then again, I remember people saying just that about Spider-Man 3 before any word had gotten out about Sandman and Venom so who knows?

Actor who could make the role work: ...Dylan Baker?

2. Electro

It should have been an ordinary day at work for electrician Maxwell Dillon. Instead, a freak accident involving lightning and power lines caused him to change into.... Electro!

Electro's powers should be fairly self-explanatory, but the basic gist is that when he is charged up with massive amounts of electricity he is able to move at lightning quick speed and have incredible strength.

While Electro or Maxwell Dillon haven't been referenced in the films, the right script and director could make this villain absolutely awesome. Crackling electricity, lightning bolts. Kind of like Storm in the X-Men 3 only without the questionable acting of Halle Berry to bring it all crashing down.

Actor who could make the role work : Nicholas Cage

3. Mysterio

In the comics, former stuntman/special effects artist Quentin Beck used illusions and trickery to attempt to set up and discredit our hero. While this theme was lightly touched upon in Spider-Man 3, done right this nemesis could make for a different and innovative film where Spidey quite doesn't know what is happening or whom he could trust.

Mysterio's powers involved using gas and chemicals to cloud up Spider-Man's enhanced senses and destroy his webbing. I imagine this would get pretty frustrating.

Actor who could make the role work: Steve Buscemi

-----------------------

In such early days, none of the big name players (Raimi, Maguire & Dunst) have signed on but I don't think that is cause for concern. These things take time, but with the kind of money that the franchise brings in, the writing skills of Vanderbilt and the legions of fans ... well... it's easy to be excited about this news!

Feel like renting Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 or Spider-Man 3? Understandable. Click on the links and add it to your queue!
