Muppets On The Big-Screen

source: geeksofdoom.com

The Muppets are returning to cinema screens, with a new screenplay being penned by an unlikely writer.

Jason Segal, who can currently be seen as Alyson Hannigan’s husband in How I Met Your Mother will write the next Muppet Movie.

A strange choice? Well, his comic credentials are actually fairly credible, having had a scene-stealing role as Seth Rogen’s roommate in Knocked Up.

He will also play leading man this April in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, written by Segal himself, and produced by Hollywood’s man-of-the-moment Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, Knocked Up).

Despite these R-Rated prior credits, Segal and Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller pitched the idea for a new Muppet film to Disney. The pair had developed a close working relationship with the Jim Henson Company on the set of Sarah Marshall, with Segal’s character in the film performing a musical version of Dracula with puppets.

It will be a bit of a wait before we see the end result of this new Muppet experiment. However, with the Screen Actors Guild considering going on strike this year, perhaps we’ll be seeing a lot more Muppets in cinemas.
