The "iconic" director, Uwe Boll, the man behind such "smash hits" as Bloodrayne, House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark has been quoted saying that he will quit making movies if 1,000,000 people sign a petition.
Now personally I don't believe it. The man knows this is a nice little earner of free-publicity, and he was the person to discover the German tax loophole that allowed him and his investors to make money despite box-office failure. He was also the director that challenged his most vocal critics to a no holds-barred physical boxing match - the catch? Mr Boll has actual boxing experience and he didn't fight any critics that had a whisper of a chance in the ring.
In other words, Mr Uwe Boll is a slippery character.
While on one hand I have to admire the guy, he is making movies and working with actors such as Jason Statham, Christian Slater and Tara Reid. Sure, they are B-List actors. You would almost expect any of them to appear in something by Uwe Boll.
But what about Burt Reynolds? Leelee Sobieski? Ron Perlman or Ray Liotta? Even Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley has been cast in one of the previous films.
Not that bad for a guy whose films average a score of 2.4/10 on imdb.com.
But even though he is doing what he loves, and working with a wide range of actors from Hollywood, the real reason why I signed the petition is that I have been forced to sit through a couple of his movies and they were complete agony.
The video game community is especially vocal in their hatred of Boll, notably because he creates these abysmal movies based on terrific video games, sharing titles and main character names but little else.
The petition is available to sign below. If you aren't familiar with Uwe Boll, consider adding one of his movies to your Queue.
We need as many passionate people listed on that petition as possible.

Why suggest we rent one of Uwe Bol's movies if that would be counter-productive to his retirement from cinema/small screen?
Oooh, I hate you!!!
Ah don't hate me, I'm ok :)
In answer to your question - Because unless you have seen one of his movies, you can only guess at how bad they are. At best you might you sign the petition and forget about it.
BUT
After actually sitting through one of his films, you will be so passionate about stopping Uwe Boll that you will not only sign the petition, but encourage friends to as well.
So there's a method to my madness.
