All around the world, news of Heath Ledger's standout performance in The Dark Knight is making headlines. Meanwhile, there has been little sympathy for Batman himself as petrol prices around the world soar. Few people know that the Batmobile has a 5.7 litre Chevy powering the 16 foot long and 9 foot wide beast, it also has 44 inch wide rear tyres and can only get about 7 miles to the gallon.

Yes, the Batmobile was a bit much in the film. I may be the only person brave enough to admit it, but I found the Batmobile and Batcycle beyond plausibility. As your photos point out, the car used in the movie and the smaller version really do show quite a difference. It would have been a wry comic touch if Batman had used a smaller vehicle, for current economic purposes. That would have brought a smile. I absolutely disliked both vehicles and came to realize during the movie that those two vehicles and Batman's suit were all external armor, for a "hero" who had no superpowers. I would have rather seen Batman himself and his external armor scaled down and have him be more human; perhaps next movie. Cast was great; vehicles were not.
That comment doesn't make sense.
You want him to be more human, and yet you're saying that he should scale down his external armour?
Well, he is human - and that's why he does scale down the external armour.
Also, you'll notice during Batman: TDK, that after the opening sequence he requests less bulkier armour to be faster....
I agree with the previous comment. The vehicles were certainly more plausible than the previous movies wherein the car would drive up walls and the like. At the end of the day its a superhero film. A guy dressed up like a bat fighting crime at night is not plausible either, take it for what it is.
i will not stand for any negative comments about the tumbler or the batpod on this blog. how much smaller a vehicle than the batpod does he need? may i remind you that he can flip a semi-trailer with that thing.
p.s - i look forward to seeing Batman's patented Shark Spray appearing in the third film. Just one spray and all dangerous marine life goes running (or swimming I suppose).
