USA Today has the first pic of Mickey Rourke as the villain Ivan Vanko (A.K.A Whiplash) in Jon Favreau‘s upcoming Iron Man 2.
Yeesh. Looking like a dirty, lo-fi, Soviet version of Iron Man, Whiplash sports a power pack in his chest similar to Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.). Attached to his arms are two whips which are powered by the chest pack. In this sequence, Vanko turns up to the Monaco Historic Grand Prix to cause a scene.
We’re big fans of Rourke here at Quickflix, and we’re insanely glad that he’s getting some work. Saying that … Russian Rourke? I’m gonna need to see a clip of him in action before I have complete faith. The same goes for Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.
The really interesting new cast member I’m looking forward to seeing introduced is Sam Rockwell as Stark’s business nemesis Justin Hammer. The idea of Rockwell and Downey Jr. in a verbal sparring match sounds much more appealing than any action scene featuring super-powered whips.
