Columbia Pictures hired The West Wing creator and Charlie Wilson’s War screenwriter Sorkin last year to write a script about Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg and the evolution of his social networking behemoth.
Columbia are now circling Fincher as the film’s director in their hopes to begin production by the end of the year.
Facebook was created by Harvard student Zuckerberg in 2004 on campus, and has since grown to have 200 million members worldwide.
I’m a big fan of Fincher’s work (with the exception of Alien 3), and I also have a soft spot for Sorkin’s wordsmithery. But a film about Facebook? Do we really want these guys to spend a year on this when there are so many more interesting stories out there?
Besides, surely this whoe Facebook thing is a fad, like MySpace or Zipper Jeans.

Discuss: Seriously, Fincher is even interested in this? Columbia must have deep pockets. Your thoughts on a Facebook movie? Will we soon hear about The Twitter Story, directed by Martin Scorcese? Will the script be longer than 140 characters???
