The first details about There Will Be Blood writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson's new film have come to light.
Variety reports that Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to star in the movie as the founder of a new religious organisation who goes by the name of 'The Master' (also speculated to be the film's title).
Set during the 1950's, the film will center on the relationship between Hoffman's 'master' and a twenty-something drifter named Freddie, a fervent follower who begins to question the belief system established by his mentor.
Universal is currently considering whether or not to green-light the $35 million budgeted drama.
Hoffman made a small appearance in Anderson's debut feature Hard Eight and went onto play significant roles in his follow-up films Boogie Nights, Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love.
Here's hoping that his other regular collaborator John C. Reilly also turns up in his latest film.
This will be Anderson's first film since being nominated for Best Director at the 2007 Academy Awards for There Will Be Blood.
Sounds like this project will be delving into some interesting faith-based questions a'la There Will Be Blood. Sounds great to me, but personally, I was holding out for him to sign onto that Metal Gear Solid movie...
Discuss: Is PTA the best director of his generation? If not, then who?

If not Anderson then Aronofsky.
I'm curious who will get the role of Freddy. A Anderson regular? A newbie?
