Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland has crossed the billion dollar mark at the worldwide box office, becoming the sixth film in history to reach the milestone.
As of this morning, it has grossed a total of: US$1,000,070, 579.
It currently sits behind Avatar (US$2.7bil), Titanic (US$1.8bil), Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (US1.1bil), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (US$1.06bil) and The Dark Knight (US$1.001bil).
Alice is now Disney’s second highest grossing film in history, right behind Pirates 2. Burton’s 3D adaptation of the classic Lewis Carroll tale should sneak past TDK to become the fifth highest grossing film of all time.
Discuss: There’s no doubt that Alice in Wonderland greatly benefited from audiences’ post-Avatar desire to enter a 3D world (despite the fact that the 3D in Alice was terrible). But is Alice worthy of entering the sort-of prestigious billion-dollar club?
