Fans of good television and humour (there are a lot of us) were deeply saddened by the cancellation last year of the wonderfully dark comedy program Party Down. Well, dry those tears Party people, because creator Rob Thomas has revealed that a film is in the works.
Speaking at a special Party Down marathon at the Alamo Drafthouse (and reported by Slashfilm), Thomas responded to questions of a third season thusly:
“People are talking to us about doing a Party Down movie. We are pretty far down the deal-making process with that, so we’re hopeful that there will be a Party Down movie. Ideally, if it works out we could be shooting in television hiatus time next spring. Hopefully that deal will close, and we’ll all tweet about it when it does.”
So, this sounds like real progress is being made, which is more than we can say about that Arrested Development movie.
The series followed a bunch of up-and-coming/washed-up actors working in the soul-crushing catering industry. We assume the movie will reunite the entire cast, including Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Megan Mullally, Ryan Hansen, and hopefully, Jane Lynch.
Discuss: Would you like to see a Party Down movie, or were you happy with how the series wrapped up?
