The Michel Hazanavicius directed picture bested Bridesmaids, The Descendants, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Help, Hugo, The Ides of March, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball and War Horse.

The Adventures of Tintin won the award for Outstanding Animated Theatrical Motion Picture, and Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest triumphed amongst documentaries.

Downton Abbey, Modern Family and Boardwalk Empire took home the top prizes in the television categories.
