Here’s your first look at the Sydney Film Fest bound Sundance victor, Benh Zeitlin’s Beasts of the Southern Wild.
The film stars Quvenzhane Wallis as a six-year-old girl named Hushpuppy, who lives with her father Wink (Dwight Henry) in the bayou. That feels like a reductive synopsis, however, barely grasping the lyrical, mythic nature of the trailer. Beasts of the Southern Wild received rapturous acclaim at Park City, picking up the Grand Jury Prize, Drama, as well as the Excellence in Cinematography accolade.

You can also watch it in HD over at Apple.
There’s a slight Where the Wild Thing Are vibe here; that’s a very good thing.
Beasts of the Southern Wild heads to Cannes this month, where it will compete in the Un Certain Regard section. It makes its Australian debut at the Sydney Film Festival, between June 6 and 17., before opening nationally on July 12, 2012.
