The film, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, will focus on the last two years of Diana’s life, before it was tragically cut short by the Paris car accident in 1997. Captured on set in Croatia, Watts seems to have perfected Diana’s look, not only because of her trademark locks but in her expressions and mannerisms.
It was not a role Watts entered into lightly, saying of Diana, “She’s a very inspiring woman, and it’s impressive how she changed the whole gearing of the traditions of the royal family and opened it up and brought a warmth to it. I just hope we make a good film and people can learn something new about her that’s interesting.”
This year marks the fifteenth anniversary of Diana’s tragic death. The film will be released in 2013.
